Keith Urban said the grief “comes in waves,” after losing his mother-in-law last month.
The country star appeared on the TODAY Show on Wednesday (October 30), the hosts of the show offered their condolences. Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman’s mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died on September 7. She was 84. Kidman, 57, told The Hollywood Reporter at the Lioness season 2 premiere in L.A., “I wish my mama was here. That'd be the one thing I'd say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here.” Kidman added that the loss had been a “hard road,” but she’s “hanging in there.”
Urban, who also joined TODAY for an interview in the studio, said on the show: “Thank you very much, and thanks for having us back. (We) really appreciate that. It’s up and down, you know? It comes in waves. But the outpouring’s been amazing, so thank you, everybody, for that. We so appreciate it.”
The TODAY hosts also acknowledged Urban’s 57th birthday on Saturday (October 26), where he celebrated by taking part in the massive Concert for Carolina benefit concert to support hurricane relief efforts after Hurricane Helene. North Caroline-born country artists Luke Combs and Eric Church teamed up to organize the show, which also included James Taylor, Billy Strings, Sheryl Crow, Scotty McCreery, Chase Rice and many other artists in the lineup. Kidman made a surprise appearance on stage to acknowledge her husband’s birthday. Combs confirmed that Concert for Carolina raised more than $24.5 million.
