This Week's Weird News 8/25/23

An apocryphal 'wolf man' photographed in Germany, a mysterious gravestone piece found in Michigan, and an eerie account of a 'ghost voter' at a polling station in Argentina were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.

Politics and the paranormal crossed paths in a couple of unexpected ways this past week. First, in Argentina, workers at a polling station reported being visited by what can only be described as a 'ghost voter.' The suspected spirit, they said, was that of an elderly woman who was handed her ballot and ushered into a room to fill it out. When she didn't emerge after several minutes, police at the polling station went to check on her and she was nowhere to be found. Later in the week, the UFO phenomenon made something of a cameo appearance at the GOP presidential primate debate when former New Jersey governor Chris Christie was asked if he would "level with" the American people about what is behind the longstanding mystery.

This past week featured a pair of peculiar stories involving the odd combination of cops and rocks, beginning with a weird mystery in Michigan which came about when police found what appears to be a piece of gravestone that had been deposited on the side of a road. A search of nearby cemeteries yielded no indication as to its source, leaving authorities to ask if anyone in the public can identify it. Later in the week, police in Massachusetts made a bizarre bust when they arrested a man who, they say, has been purposely leaving boulders in the middle of a road so that cars would crash into them. Caught in the act by a detective hiding in some nearby woods, the suspect now faces a whopping 20 charges for his alleged antics which unfolded over the course of months.

By far the wildest story of the week came by way of Germany, where a pair of hikers managed to photograph an apocryphal individual, dubbed the 'wolf man,' who is believed to live in the forests of a mountain range. Gina Weiss snapped the jaw-dropping picture as she and a friend were exploring some popular sand caves in an area where the Harz mountains run through the town of Blankenburg. To their profound surprise, the duo stumbled upon the mysterious stranger who has been spotted roaming around the woods while dressed as a wolf on multiple occasions over the last five years. Seen as something of an urban legend in the community, the existence of the 'wolf man' was finally confirmed thanks to Weiss fortuitous photo.
